Industry Insight - Robert Wolff |

For
our first Industry Insight podcast we interview Robert Wolff, author of "How To Make It In The New Music Business".
Robert has been working in and around the music and publishing business for
nearly two decades and wrote the book "How To Make It In The New Music
Business".
When I first picked up "How To Make It In The New Music Business"
I was simply looking for a quick reference book. What I found was a book that
is an anthem for anyone involved in the music industry. Wolff's laid back and
to the point writing style is infectious. "How To Make It In The New Music
Business" is a self help book for the starting indie musician while being
a great review for the veteran.
Bob Clearmountain, Bob Ludwig, and Diane Warren all have supplied chapters
on various topics. Steve Lukather also writes on the ills of the old school
recording industry business model. But my favorite chapter includes Courtney
Love's speech on how the industry takes way more than it ever gives. Robert
also breaks down the typical major label record contract - a real eye opener.
Additional chapters include topics ranging from computer software and home audio
setup to handling licensing and distribution.
In short, this is a House Of Gigs recommended resource.
Check out Robert's website at My
Music Business Coach where an expanded eBook version is available.

The devastation of the gulf coast has been on all of our minds lately.
It is especially disheartening to the House Of Gigs crew to see the
destruction of the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans.
We want to encourage all musicians and fans to help in anyway you can.
We know most musicians are living gig to gig, but even if you just have
some concert shirts or jeans that you never wear just laying around –
head down to the local Salvation Army and donate them, someone out there could use it.
For our part, each HOG member has donated to various charities, but we want to do more. So, for each T-Shirt we sell, between now and September 31, we are donating $5 (which is basically our profit that we use for website operating expenses) to Modest Needs (thanks ubermondo.com for alerting us to this great charity). We chose Modest Needs because of their works and because they get very little “pub” for what they do.
Click here to buy a House Of Gigs “Support Local Music Dammit!!” T-Shirt
Even if you don’t buy a shirt please, please, please do something to
help if you have the means. Here are some fine charities that could use
your help in this time of need and beyond:
The Child Healthsite
Hurricane Housing
Mercy Corps
Salvation Army
Red Cross
Give Life(Blood Donations)
